Hobie Alter Memorial Service

Several hundred people were in attendance for the first of two memorial services held last Thursday to honor Hobie Alter, a man known as one of the most successful entrepreneurs and greatest innovators in the history of surfing. Hobie was behind the development of the modern surfboard thus revolutionizing the sport by using lighter, and less-expensive materials. Alter was also the creator of the Hobie Cat which according to the companies website is the world's best-selling catamaran. The second memorial service will be a public paddle-out set to take place on Friday, April 18 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, Calif.
