Kayaking Koojesse Inlet near Iqaluit, Nunavut on Baffin Island

A pair of sea kayakers cross Koojesse Inlet on a rare glassy August afternoon outside the Nunavut capital of Iqaluit, passing a lone cairn marking Apex Beach near the weathered ruins of the Hudson's Bay Company's original South Baffin headquarters. The cairns often depict human forms, symbolic reminders that travelers are not alone, no matter how lonely the Arctic expanse may seem.
