Portrait photography: Hurricane Katrina survivor

Portrait of Michael Knight, a life-long resident of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. Knight, along with another man, used a canoe during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to rescue more than 300 of their marooned neighbors, many of whom might have died if not for their efforts. Knight lived on his roof for nine days until help finally arrived. For the full story, pick up the March 2013 issue of Canoe & Kayak magazine.
